Whether your pet needs soft tissue surgery, spay/neuter, or other surgical services, you can trust Drs. Brandon Heikes and Elise LaFevre for an exceptional and painless procedure.

What are the pet surgery services available?

Our services include the elective and emergency procedures below.

  • Spaying and neutering: We surgically sterilize your pets to prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce unwanted behaviors. Spaying (ovariohysterectomy) involves surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus from female pets while under general anesthesia. Neutering involves removing the male’s testicles.
  • Soft tissue surgery: We perform numerous surgeries involving the intestinal tract, stomach, urinary bladder, tumor removal, wound repair and certain eye surgeries.
  • Dental surgery: Our vet team provides complete oral health assessment and treatments. We perform dental extractions and other oral surgical services.

What can I expect during surgery?

The prospect of surgery and anesthesia can be very intimidating. We understand! However, when surgery is needed, we ensure the procedure is as seamless as possible from start to finish.

Surgical protocols in our office include:

  • Pre-surgery assessment and care: Our veterinary team will conduct a pre-surgical evaluation to ensure your pet is healthy enough for the surgery. We’ll perform a physical exam and blood test to reduce the risk of anesthesia-related complications. The day before the surgery, we’ll give you instructions on preparing your pet for surgery, including fasting and medication. Also, we recommend your pet is up-to-date with vaccinations.
  • During surgery: We’ll give your pet anesthesia to ensure they are comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure. We’ll use monitoring equipment to track heart rate, oxygen levels, blood pressure, and other vital signs. Our doctor will perform the surgery as planned. Whether it’s a routine spay/neuter or a more complex operation, our team takes every precaution to ensure your pet’s safety. After surgery, we’ll move your pet to a recovery room, where they are closely monitored until they wake from anesthesia. We’ll provide you with updates throughout the day.
  • Post-surgery: Your pet may be groggy or disoriented from the anesthesia. This is normal and typically improves within a few hours. Our veterinary team will ensure your pet is stable before discharge. Before you leave, we’ll provide detailed aftercare guidelines covering wound care, activity restrictions, medication schedules, and dietary advice. We’ll also schedule follow-up appointments to monitor healing and remove sutures if necessary. As your pet heals, offer plenty of love, patience, and comfort to help them feel safe during recovery.
