When the worst strikes, we give our best: Complete, quality emergency veterinary care
Few events and circumstances in life are as stressful and traumatic as a sick or injured pet. As a provider of exceptional veterinary services in your community, Cornelius Pet Hospital of Ventura, California, is here for you and your fluffy, furry patients. As a true, full-service animal hospital, we provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art urgent care. Our services also defy the conventional, as we take an integrative and multidisciplinary approach to care for your dog or cat at every life stage.
But how do I know it’s a “true” emergency?
We encourage you to contact us immediately should you suspect the “worst” or simply feel that something is “off.” Do not dismiss those feelings. You are around your dog or cat all of the time. You know them best. Our valued clients pick up on subtle changes or clues to problems in their pets’ appearance and behaviors, and we respect and account for their observations and insights. They can provide clues into what may be going on. It’s a fact of veterinary care that often these subtleties are all that our canine and feline companions show us as “symptoms.” Dogs and cats can be incredibly stoic. By the time they display more obvious problems, such as listlessness, labored breathing, and anorexia, the underlying condition may have caused damage or progressed to a point where aggressive measures and treatment are necessary.
Are there any symptoms that should never be ignored?
The American Veterinary Medical Association has listed potential concerns warranting emergency consultation and care. Be sure to monitor for and contact us immediately should your pet experience a cough that doesn’t let up, or noticeably distressed breathing and gagging. Other reasons to contact us immediately include straining to urinate, if you suspect they may have gotten into something toxic or poisonous, visible injuries, seizures, or signs of overheating. Symptoms of overheating might include excessive panting and drooling. Lastly, the AVMA suggests seeking immediate care if your pet has had two or more episodes of extreme vomiting or loose stools over 24 hours or hasn’t had anything to drink for 24 hours or longer, as dehydration is a common and serious threat to your pet’s health.
